Project overview
Located in the scenic South Moravian countryside, dotted by clusters of vineyards, the winery is placed in the natural slope of the sounding terrain. It is divided into three interlinked tiers, with the design echoing the natural slopes of the surrounding terrain most noticeably in the amphitheatre’s incline. The winery’s structural scheme is based on the width of the spacing between rows of grapevines and runs throughout the entire building. In the main tasting room, the vineyard orthogonally intersects with an arched room that is archetypal of the region’s wine cellars. Thus aligning with the rhythm of the vine rows, the colonnade of arches creates a perfect visual symmetry with nature. This is most visible in the visitor centre and the administrative part of the building, which opens onto the landscape through a glass façade. With winemaking concentrated in two separate horizontal buildings, the winery gives the impression of merging naturally with the rural landscape that surrounds it. The two halls of varying height correspond to the production processes that take place within them. The first, lower hall, houses the operations, wine-making production, and employee facilities. Strip windows under the structure’s roof create an abundance of natural light. The second hall allows for operations that require lower temperatures – the wine-press, cellar and wine store. The spaces’ varying heights correspond to the terrain, resulting in the alignment of the functional courtyards. While one courtyard serves as the operational area, centralising logistical and production processes, the other holds the amphitheatre, offering excellent views to the far distance. The architectural design of the amphitheatre engages visitors, while the roof offers a panoramic view of the vineyard. It will be a community space dedicated to cultural events, such as grape harvest celebrations and theatre performances.
